Missing Sub-Inspector Ajay Gaur Found Dead in Saryu River Near Ayodhya, Mystery Deepens

Basti (Uttar Pradesh): A wave of shock spread across Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district after the body of Sub-Inspector Ajay Gaur, who had been missing since February 5, was recovered from the Saryu River near the Ayodhya border on Sunday.

The discovery has raised serious questions and deepened the mystery surrounding his sudden disappearance. Police officials have launched an investigation to determine whether it was a case of suicide or foul play.

Body Found in Police Uniform, Locals Raise Alarm

According to sources, local boatmen spotted a body floating in the river, dressed in a police uniform, and immediately alerted authorities. The Water Police reached the spot and retrieved the body from the river.

The deceased was later identified as Ajay Gaur, a Sub-Inspector posted at Parasrampur Police Station in Basti.

Bike Found Abandoned Earlier, Fear of Mishap Had Grown

Ajay Gaur had been untraceable for several days, triggering concern within the police department and among his family members. Earlier, on Friday, his motorcycle was found abandoned near a bridge on the Kuwano River in Basti, increasing fears that something serious may have happened.

Following the incident, multiple police teams were deployed to search for him.

Father Suspected Kidnapping

Ajay Gaur, originally a resident of Deoria district, lived in a rented accommodation in Basti city. After he went missing, both his personal mobile phone and official CUG number were found switched off.

His father, Ramchandra Gaur, had earlier expressed suspicion that his son may have been kidnapped.

Last Conversation With Wife

Reports suggest that Ajay Gaur spoke to his wife Ranjita on the morning of February 5. The couple has two children. Before leaving, he reportedly told his follower not to prepare dinner, saying that he had been invited somewhere.

Suicide or Conspiracy? Police Face Major Challenge

Ajay Gaur had been given additional charge of the police station after the Station House Officer went on leave. Following his disappearance, a major search operation was conducted involving the Parasrampur police, SOG, SWAT teams, and at least five separate units.

Now, investigators are trying to determine whether the officer jumped into the river and died by suicide, or if he was the victim of an organized crime or conspiracy.

The police have stated that further details will be revealed only after post-mortem results and forensic investigation.

Authorities have taken the body into custody and initiated legal procedures. The incident has caused widespread concern within the police force, as the mysterious death of an active-duty officer is being treated as a serious matter.
