Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh):
The Mirzapur police have arrested Shyam Bahadur Patel, the district president of Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), along with two others, on charges of cattle smuggling. Patel, who is also the village head (Pradhan) of his native village, is accused of running the illegal operation for several years.
According to police officials, Patel allegedly carried out cattle smuggling in collaboration with Rajesh Kol, the caretaker of a cow shelter (Gaushala). The case pertains to the cow shelter located in Sonvarsha village under Lalganj police station limits.
The arrests followed the detention of Anil Prajapati earlier this week. Five cattle were rescued from his vehicle. During interrogation, Prajapati revealed the names of other individuals involved in the racket, leading to the arrest of Patel and the remaining accused.
Previous Criminal Record
Police sources confirmed that Shyam Bahadur Patel had earlier been booked in 2021 for allegedly obstructing government work and assaulting officials.
Officials further stated that on January 26, they received specific intelligence about cattle smugglers attempting to transport livestock. Acting on the tip-off, three police teams were deployed, resulting in the successful crackdown on the smuggling network.
Further investigation is underway, and police are examining the possible involvement of others linked to the illegal trade.
