Minor Rape Victim Brings Newborn to Hospital, Suspected Sale Sparks Police Investigation

Gurugram, 26 Dec 2025: Chaos erupted at two private hospitals in Gurugram on Wednesday when a newborn, discharged from a government hospital, was admitted to private facilities without proper documentation. Subsequent investigation revealed that the baby was born to a minor rape victim.

A health worker had brought the infant to the hospital, citing jaundice as the reason for medical attention. Police were alerted due to suspicions surrounding the newborn’s movement between hospitals. The child was eventually handed over to the family of the victim after authorities arrived at the scene. There were initial fears that the newborn might have been intended for sale, but the matter was clarified following police intervention. Statements have been recorded from the health worker, the attending doctor, the victim, and her family.

Police Raise Alarm After Contact from Hospital
The case came to light after the Sector 10A police registered a complaint under the POCSO Act on Saturday. The minor, who had given birth following a sexual assault, had been admitted to a civil hospital along with her child. The newborn later reached two private hospitals without any formal records, raising alarm among hospital authorities. Upon contacting the police, the situation caused widespread concern. The accused, identified as Rajesh from Ayodhya, has been arrested in connection with the rape.

Discharge and Follow-Up
The minor and her baby were discharged from the civil hospital on 22 December. The health worker reportedly facilitated the baby’s admission in private hospitals without the presence of the mother or her family. Civil Surgeon Alka Singh confirmed the minor had been discharged from the civil hospital along with the infant.

Police Continue Investigation
Sector 9A Police Station in-charge Sunil Kumar stated that the baby was safely handed over to the victim’s family on Wednesday night. Authorities are investigating all angles to ensure the safety of the child and accountability of those involved.
