Mumbai: A disturbing incident in the Mira Road area of Mumbai has raised fresh concerns about online safety. A 17-year-old girl made an online payment via GPay to an auto-rickshaw driver after her ride on the night of November 23. Initially, everything appeared normal, but shortly afterward, the driver began sending inappropriate messages to the girl and even tracked her location.
Stalking Begins After Online Transaction
According to reports, after receiving the payment, the auto driver attempted to contact the girl repeatedly, even discovering her Instagram profile. He went as far as sending messages asking her to meet at a nearby garden. When the girl ignored him, he appeared near her building the next day, November 24, around 3 PM, prompting her friends to intervene online to confirm his identity. Local residents eventually confronted the driver, preventing any potential escalation.
Online Safety Concerns
This incident has once again highlighted the risks of sharing personal information during online transactions. The girl’s family has not yet reported the matter to the police, but the episode serves as a cautionary tale for minors and women about the dangers of digital payments and the importance of vigilance when interacting with strangers.
