Minor Argument Over Snacks Turns Fatal in Banda; 14-Year-Old Girl Dies After Consuming Poison

Banda (Uttar Pradesh): A tragic incident has come to light from Kayal village under Baberu police station limits in Banda district, where a minor domestic dispute escalated into a fatal tragedy. A 14-year-old girl, identified as Neelu, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance after a brief argument with her younger brother over snacks, leading to her death.

According to family members, the incident occurred on Thursday night. Neelu’s younger brother Ashok had brought savouries from a local shop and was also eating biscuits kept at home. Neelu objected, asking him to save the biscuits for the next morning’s breakfast. What began as a minor disagreement soon turned into a verbal altercation between the siblings.

Deeply upset by the argument, Neelu reportedly consumed poison later that night without informing anyone.

Rushed to Hospital, Declared Dead

Around 9 pm, when Neelu’s condition began to deteriorate, the family rushed her to the Community Health Centre, from where she was referred to the district hospital due to her critical condition. However, doctors at the district hospital declared her dead before treatment could begin.

The news of her death plunged the family into grief. Neelu was the youngest among three sisters, and her mother, Usha Devi, along with other family members, was inconsolable.

Police Initiate Investigation

On receiving information, the police reached the spot, conducted necessary formalities, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Baberu Station House Officer Rajendra Singh Rajawat stated that prima facie the case appears to be one of suicide, and further action will be taken after the post-mortem report is received.

The incident has left the village in shock, highlighting how seemingly trivial domestic disputes can have devastating consequences, especially among minors.
