Millions Benefit from SPREE Scheme in Faridabad and Gurgaon; Key Details of the Initiative

Faridabad/Gurgaon, Haryana: In a major step towards extending social security to workers in small establishments, the central government’s SPREE (Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employer and Employee) initiative has successfully covered over 848,000 people in the Faridabad and Gurgaon zones. Beneficiaries under this scheme will now have access to all social security benefits provided under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

Deadline Approaching: December 31
According to departmental officials, a total of 6,926 establishments in the two zones have registered their employees under the scheme. Across the state, over 900,000 workers have been brought under social security coverage. ESIC has waived previous penalties and inspections for registered establishments. Establishment owners have until December 31 to register their workers and avail themselves of the benefits.

About the SPREE Scheme
Launched on July 1, 2025, the SPREE scheme aims to bring establishments with 10 or more employees—including contract and temporary workers—under ESIC coverage without any prior inspections or penalties. Registered employees and their families receive medical and financial benefits, including sickness, maternity, injury, and death compensation. The scheme also encourages maximum registration of establishments under ESIC, ensuring broader social security coverage.

Benefits Highlighted by Officials
Regional Director Sugan Lala Meena stated that the scheme allows establishments to register employees without previous dues or inspections, protects owners from punitive actions, and extends healthcare and cash benefits to registered employees and their families. The initiative aims to expand ESIC coverage to as many establishments as possible, ensuring social security for every worker.

Performance in Faridabad and Gurgaon Zones
Faridabad and Gurgaon have performed notably well under the SPREE scheme. Faridabad zone achieved 44.75% of its target, registering 317,051 of 754,407 workers. Gurgaon zone surpassed 62% of its target, covering 531,724 of 847,767 employees. In comparison, the Karnal zone has achieved only 27.89% of its target.

Statewide Impact
In Haryana, a total of 4,816 establishments have enrolled in ESIC under the SPREE scheme, covering over 900,000 employees. Faridabad zone includes Faridabad, Palwal, Rohtak, Sonipat, Bhiwani, and Hisar, while Gurgaon zone covers Nuh, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Manesar, and Gurgaon.

The SPREE initiative marks a significant stride in extending social security to workers in smaller establishments, ensuring broader healthcare and financial protection for employees across the state.
