Mewar’s Legendary Warrior Whose Empire Reached Iran and Turan, Founder of a City in Present-Day Pakistan

Udaipur:
The royal house of Udaipur, popularly known as the Mewar dynasty, has once again come into public focus due to an ongoing property dispute. Amid this renewed attention, interest in the glorious history of the Mewar rulers has also intensified. A look into the pages of history reveals that the foundation of this illustrious dynasty was laid by the valiant and visionary ruler Bappa Rawal, whose fame and influence extended far beyond the Indian subcontinent.

According to historical records and media reports, Bappa Rawal established the Mewar kingdom in the 8th century, around 713 AD. He belonged to the Guhila clan, which later became renowned as the Sisodia dynasty—a lineage that went on to produce some of India’s most celebrated warriors and rulers.

Architect of a Powerful Kingdom

The transformation of Mewar into a formidable power is largely attributed to Bappa Rawal’s military prowess and strategic leadership. While later generations witnessed legendary figures such as Maharana Kumbha, Rana Hamir, Maharana Sanga, and Maharana Pratap, it was Bappa Rawal who laid the strong foundations of Mewar’s political and military might.

Triumph Over Arab Forces

Historical accounts suggest that in the 8th century, after achieving victories in Sindh, Arab forces advanced towards Gujarat and Rajasthan. It was during this expansion that they encountered fierce resistance from Bappa Rawal. In a series of decisive battles, he is believed to have defeated several Arab commanders, halting their advance and establishing his dominance in the region.

Empire from Mewar to Iran and Turan

Legends and traditional chronicles credit Bappa Rawal with expanding his influence far beyond present-day Rajasthan. His empire is said to have stretched from Mewar to Kandahar, Iran, and Turan, making him one of the most powerful Indian rulers of his time. These victories not only enhanced Mewar’s prestige but also secured its frontiers against foreign invasions.

Founder of Rawalpindi

One of the most striking claims associated with Bappa Rawal is that, in order to strengthen his north-western borders, he founded the city of Rawalpindi, located in present-day Pakistan. This act symbolized his far-reaching vision and strategic foresight in safeguarding his empire.

Enduring Legacy

Centuries later, the legacy of Bappa Rawal continues to define the identity of Mewar. His courage, military achievements, and expansive vision laid the groundwork for a dynasty that became synonymous with valor, sacrifice, and resistance. Even today, the name of Mewar commands respect not only in India but across the world, as a symbol of an unyielding warrior tradition rooted in history.
