Meet Bihar’s Modern-Day ‘Dadhichi’: Retired Teacher Spends Pension on Educating Underprivileged Children

Sitamarhi, Bihar: In Sitamarhi district, Bihar, retired teacher Dr. Naval Kishore Prasad Yadav has become a beacon of hope for underprivileged children. Locals fondly call him the “Dadhichi of Kaliyuga”, drawing a parallel with the legendary sage Maharshi Dadhichi, who sacrificed his bones for the welfare of mankind.

Igniting the Light of Education
Unlike many today who focus solely on their personal and family interests, Dr. Yadav dedicates his time and resources to children from economically weaker backgrounds, ensuring they receive proper education. Hailing from Dalkawa village in Sonbarsa block, he has been teaching poor and meritorious students for decades.

Education Beyond Employment
Dr. Yadav believes that education is not merely a means to secure employment, but a powerful tool to shape society and its future. Since retiring from teaching, he has continued to inspire children by providing free education, along with books, notebooks, and other learning materials purchased from his own pension funds. He firmly believes that no child’s education should be hindered due to financial constraints.

Free Education Across Schools
Even after retirement, Dr. Yadav has been actively teaching in multiple government schools, including primary and middle schools in Dalkawa, Rajwara, Indarwa, and Soharwa, as well as offering free education at a private school in Chak Mahila, Sitamarhi. His teaching journey began in 1973 at the middle school in Patahi, near the border, where he reached out to children living in villages and slums.

Mastery Across Subjects
Dr. Yadav possesses a strong command over Mathematics, Science, English, History, Civics, and Geography. Even today, students from the 8th grade to undergraduate level approach him for guidance and mentorship.

Shashiranjan Education Center: A Tribute to His Late Son
After the untimely death of his son Shashiranjan in a road accident, Dr. Yadav established the Shashiranjan Education Center in his memory. The center has become a powerful platform for societal upliftment through education. It organizes district-level Kushagra Buddhi examinations, provides financial support to selected students, and offers free guidance for competitive exams. Many of his students now serve in prestigious institutions such as banks, the army, medical services, and the postal department.
