Meerut’s Kapsad Case: “Papa! He Took My Mother Away”—Ruby Recounts Her Ordeal Under Axe and Gun Threats

Ruby, the young girl who witnessed the brutal murder of her mother in Meerut’s Kapsad case, gave a harrowing testimony at the court through Asha Jyoti Centre. She identified Paras Som as the person responsible for her mother’s killing and her own abduction.

Clinging to her father Satendra in the Asha Jyoti Centre on Sunday evening, Ruby finally broke down after four days of silent suffering. Her father, brother, and sister were visibly emotional as she recounted the trauma. Upon seeing his daughter, Satendra could only ask in a trembling voice, “Did anyone harm you?”

The Attack: Mother Struck in Front of Ruby
According to her family, Ruby narrated the entire sequence of events in detail. She, along with two friends, was heading to her father to help peel sugarcane, while her mother Sunita followed behind. Near the fields, Paras suddenly emerged from the sugarcane with an axe. Ruby’s friends ran in fear as Paras grabbed her hand and tried to drag her away. Her mother intervened, but Paras struck Sunita with the axe. Ruby pleaded with him to stop, but he did not relent. Sunita fell to the ground while Paras dragged Ruby into the fields.

Gun Threats and One-and-a-Half-Hour Captivity
Ruby managed to escape briefly, but Paras pursued her and brandished a pistol, threatening, “Just as I killed your mother, I will kill your father and brother too.” Terrified, Ruby remained silent. Paras kept her seated behind the fields for about 90 minutes, later forcing her along the canal embankment. He also stopped a truck at gunpoint and used it to move Ruby from Khatauli to Delhi, hiding the pistol under a cloth to prevent her from raising an alarm.

Plans for Haridwar and Police Intervention
From Delhi, Paras planned to take Ruby to Haridwar by train. Ruby insisted on contacting her home, prompting Paras to call a doctor through an acquaintance. During this time, the police received information, leading to the arrest of both. Ruby revealed that Paras spent most of the journey taking her through railway stations to maintain control.

Courageous Court Testimony
Ruby told the court that she would rather die than lie. She clearly stated that Paras had abducted her, murdered her mother with an axe when she resisted, and kept her captive under threat of a firearm.

Details of the Murder
When asked by CO Ashutosh Kumar how the murder was committed, Ruby drew a diagram of the axe on paper to illustrate the act. She did not know where the axe was discarded after the murder.

Paras Acted Alone
Ruby confirmed that Paras acted alone, armed only with the axe and pistol. She was not abducted in a car but was taken on foot and later transported by truck. Following her testimony, the police are investigating the role of a person named Sunil, and he may be released if no evidence is found against him.
