Meerut: Uniformed Policeman Found Asleep in Car Parked on Highway, Multiple Vehicles Crash Amid Dense Fog

In a shocking incident that raises serious questions about road safety and police conduct, a uniformed policeman was found asleep inside his car parked in the middle of a highway on the Bulandshahr Road in Meerut late Tuesday night. The incident led to multiple vehicles colliding with the stationary car, causing damage and chaos on the highway amid dense fog.

The incident occurred in the Paratapur police station area near the Kharkhauda bypass around midnight, when visibility was extremely poor due to heavy fog.

Chain Collision in Low Visibility

According to eyewitnesses, the fog was so dense that drivers could barely see a few metres ahead. Rakesh Kumar, a taxi driver returning from Hapur, said his vehicle suddenly rammed into a car standing in the middle of the road.

“When I got out, I saw that several other vehicles had already crashed into the same car. The road was in complete disarray,” he said.

Policeman Allegedly Intoxicated

On inspecting the parked vehicle, commuters were stunned to find a policeman in uniform sleeping inside the car. Passers-by alleged that the policeman was heavily intoxicated.

When confronted and asked why he had parked the vehicle on the highway, the policeman allegedly misbehaved with motorists, used abusive language and attempted to intimidate them by flaunting his uniform instead of acknowledging his fault. The situation escalated, leading to temporary traffic congestion on the highway.

Police Intervene, Video Goes Viral

Following information received by the police control room, a team reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Damaged vehicles were removed from the highway, and two vehicles were seized and sent to the police station.

By then, however, a passer-by had already recorded a video of the incident. The footage has since gone viral on social media, triggering public outrage.

Official Response

Responding to the incident, CO Kithore Pramod Singh said that he was initially unaware of the matter but that the concerned policeman is being identified based on the viral video.

“Appropriate action will be taken after verification,” he said.

Public Concern Over Accountability

The incident has sparked widespread anger among locals, who questioned how a policeman tasked with ensuring public safety could himself become a serious threat on the road. The episode has renewed calls for strict accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct within the police force, especially when public lives are put at risk.
