Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking and tragic incident, a 13-year-old boy in Meerut lost his life due to an unexpected accident involving his school ID card. The incident occurred at his home in the Sainik Vihar Colony, Kankar Kheda, leaving the family and local community devastated.
The deceased, Lakshya, son of BSF jawan Deepak Balyan who is currently posted in Tripura, was a bright and responsible student of Class 8 at Army Public School. On Monday evening, after returning from school and attending his tuition classes, Lakshya went to the bathroom to change clothes. In his hurry, he had forgotten to remove his school ID card. Slipping on the wet floor, he fell, and the lanyard of his ID card got entangled around the tap, leading to accidental strangulation.
The family rushed Lakshya to Laxya Health Care Centre on Sardhana Road, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. His mother, Gudia, and two sisters were left inconsolable, while his father, posted far away in Tripura, was stunned upon receiving the news. Family members described Lakshya as a calm, intelligent, and well-behaved child.
Kankar Kheda Inspector Vinay Kumar confirmed that preliminary investigations suggest the death was accidental, caused by a fall in the bathroom and the ID card lanyard getting caught. A post-mortem has been conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. Initially, Lakshya’s father had requested not to perform a post-mortem, but the authorities, after discussing with the family, ensured that the procedure was carried out to ascertain the details.
This heartbreaking incident highlights the unforeseen dangers household items can pose and has left the local community in shock.
