Meerut: A video showing the bravery of a Station House Officer (SHO) in Meerut has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise. The incident occurred in the TP Nagar area, where reports surfaced that a 10-year-old boy had fallen into a deep drain, prompting an immediate and high-risk rescue operation by the police and fire brigade.
According to officials, the incident took place on Monday near the Naveen Mandi Gate on Delhi Road. Upon receiving information about the possible fall of the child into the drain, TP Nagar SHO Arun Mishra rushed to the spot along with a fire brigade team. Without wasting time, the SHO displayed remarkable courage by personally jumping into the drain to search for the child.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the boy was allegedly trying to retrieve a glass bottle from the edge of the drain when he slipped and fell inside. The drain was reportedly clogged with garbage, while the water flow underneath was extremely strong, making rescue efforts challenging.
Due to heavy silt accumulation and considerable depth, the search operation faced major obstacles. The Municipal Corporation deployed JCB machines to remove debris and sludge from the drain in an attempt to trace the child. Despite a continuous 12-hour-long search operation, no trace of the child was found.
Later, the SHO stated that there is no official confirmation yet that the child actually fell into the drain. A thorough search of the entire stretch of the drain was conducted, but nothing was recovered.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to verify the authenticity of the information that triggered the massive rescue operation.
