Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A bizarre drama unfolded in Meerut’s Bahsuma area on Saturday evening, sending shockwaves through a village. A 25-year-old lady constable, who was supposed to attend her wedding procession, suddenly went missing after a traditional haldi ceremony. Initial reports suggested that history-sheeter Ankit Chauhan had kidnapped her. Police launched an immediate search and located her in Bakser, Meerut, within eight hours, though Ankit Chauhan managed to escape.
Twist in the Tale
Upon questioning, police revealed that the woman had gone with Chauhan of her own volition. She reportedly informed her family over the phone, stating she was an adult and there was no cause for worry. Her statement will be officially recorded in court on Monday.
Prior Acquaintance
The lady constable and Ankit Chauhan were known to each other. During visits to her aunt’s home in Dhikoli village, she met Chauhan, a history-sheeter from Mavana police station. Chauhan, who was recently released on bail after a prior encounter injury, has 11 cases registered against him, including a gangsters’ case and involvement in a liquor shop robbery.
Scheduled Marriage Called Off
The constable, posted in Muzaffarnagar, was to marry a colleague stationed at the same police station. Her sudden disappearance led to panic in her village of Akbarpur Sadat. Reports now indicate she has refused the arranged marriage, opting to be with Ankit Chauhan.
