Meerut, January 16, 2026: The Kapsad village case involving Paras Som and Ruby Jatav is escalating beyond a love affair into allegations of murder, abduction, and conspiracy. The accused, currently in jail, has shared his version of events with his lawyers, which sharply contradicts the claims made by the police and the victim’s family.
On Thursday, Paras Som met with four lawyers, including Sanjeev Rana and Balram Som, in jail. According to the lawyers, Paras told them that he and Ruby had known each other for three years. Their friendship began during Ruby’s brother Mandeep’s wedding in February 2024 and gradually developed into a romantic relationship. At the time, Ruby was an intermediate student, while Paras was in high school. The families eventually learned about their relationship.
Family Agreement and Renewed Contact
Following objections from both families, Ruby’s brother Narsi Jatav lodged a complaint with the local police on September 10, 2024. The police mediated an agreement instructing Paras to cease contact with Ruby. While communication initially stopped, Paras resumed contact when Ruby’s marriage date was fixed for April 12. Paras claims that under this pressure, he and Ruby planned to elope.
Journey by Train
Paras maintains that Ruby accompanied him willingly and that there was no abduction or coercion. He told his lawyers that the couple was stopped by police at Sakauti station but later boarded a Delhi-bound train, continuing their journey on the train.
Family Alleges Murder and Forced Abduction
Ruby’s brother Narsi Jatav has rejected Paras’s claims, asserting that the act was part of a conspiracy to escape, not a love story. Narsi directly questioned Paras’s alleged love, citing the murder of Ruby’s mother, Sunita, on January 8. According to the family, Paras displayed a firearm, killed Sunita, and forcibly abducted Ruby. Ruby has also told the court that she was taken against her will.
Police Actions and Security Measures
Ruby and Paras were later apprehended at Chudiyala Railway Station in Haridwar. Ruby was safely handed over to her family, while Paras was remanded to jail. The Meerut police are preparing to take Paras on remand to recover the axe and firearm allegedly used in the murder. Paras’s lawyers have also filed a plea citing his minor status, which is under judicial consideration. For Ruby’s safety, police have installed CCTV cameras around her home and deployed female officers for 24-hour protection.
