Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A story of love, fear, and regret has emerged from Sarurpur police station area, where a man who allowed his wife to marry her lover is now approaching the police, seeking her return.
The incident dates back to the night of December 7, when a local man reportedly caught his wife in a compromising situation with her lover. Shocked and fearing for his own safety, he handed both of them over to the police with the help of his family. A village panchayat was held the next day in the presence of both families. However, dissatisfied with his wife’s behavior, her own family distanced themselves from her.
Marriage in a Temple
Following the panchayat, citing fear for his life and referencing the well-known Neela Drum case in Meerut, the husband refused to stay with his wife. Respecting his apprehensions, he allowed her to stay with her lover. The woman later married her lover in a temple ceremony, making her decision clear.
Husband’s Change of Heart
Around ten days later, the husband returned to the authorities, expressing renewed attachment to his wife and requesting her return. However, the wife remains steadfast in her choice, stating that she intends to live with her lover. She has also submitted her statement to the police reaffirming this decision.
Police Response
CO Ashutosh Kumar told NBT Online that the case is “very complex” and that both parties’ statements are being heard. He added that appropriate legal action will be taken according to the law.
This unusual case highlights the intersection of personal fear, societal pressures, and individual choice, leaving authorities to navigate a delicate balance between law and personal autonomy.
