Meerut: Begumpul Chowk, one of the busiest intersections in Meerut, witnessed late-night chaos on Friday as six cars carrying groups of young men created a scene of lawlessness. Several of the youths were reportedly intoxicated, engaging in stunts, shouting slogans, and defying traffic rules, causing a major disruption.
Standoff with Police
Eyewitnesses said the commotion began with blaring sirens and youths hanging out of car windows, performing dangerous stunts. When police tried to intervene, the group allegedly used abusive language and claimed association with a certain organization, escalating the confrontation into a physical altercation with on-duty officers.
Intoxication and Defiance
Sources report that the youths were returning from a meeting in Delhi. Despite police warnings regarding illegal sirens and traffic violations, the group became aggressive. Even after police intervention, they continued honking and causing a ruckus while leaving the scene. Portions of the incident were recorded and circulated on social media, quickly going viral.
Action Taken by Police
SSP Dr. Vipin Tada, considering the incident a lapse in duty, immediately placed the Sadar Bazaar police inspector on line duty. Multiple cases have been filed against the vehicle owners, including charges for causing traffic jams, stunts, public disturbance, and obstructing government work. The police are now identifying the culprits using CCTV footage and the viral videos to ensure arrests are made.
