BSP supremo and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati expressed deep concern over the rising communal violence against Hindu minorities in neighboring Bangladesh, following the brutal murder of a Dalit youth. She termed the nationwide outrage in India over this incident as natural and justified.
In a detailed post on social media platform X, Mayawati highlighted that the ongoing attacks on the life, property, and religious freedoms of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh are alarming not just for India but for the international community as well. Referring to the recent killing of the Dalit youth, she stated that citizens taking to the streets in protest was an expected response.
Call for Proactive Government Measures
Mayawati urged the Indian government to take immediate cognizance of the situation and adopt a more active role at all levels. She emphasized that this is the need of the hour and that the public rightly expects such measures from the authorities.
The BSP leader also pointed out that in India, discrimination, exploitation, and atrocities against Dalits, tribals, and marginalized groups have persisted for centuries, and legal safeguards designed for their protection have often been rendered ineffective. Nevertheless, she stressed that the situation in Bangladesh cannot be ignored due to its serious, distressing, and worrisome nature.
Appeal to the Central Government
Mayawati appealed to the central government to take stronger action in response to anti-Hindu and anti-India incidents in Bangladesh, stressing that the government’s efforts should meet public expectations. She added that if the government adopts concrete and effective steps, it will receive full public support.
Concluding her statement, Mayawati urged the authorities to give this grave issue the attention it deserves, warning that the political discourse around minority protection could intensify if decisive measures are not taken.
