Jhunjhunu/Todabhim: In a major breakthrough, Nawalgarh police have arrested Maulana Hasim, a wanted criminal who had been evading law enforcement for 15 years. The accused, who carried a bounty of ₹20,000, was involved in fraud under the pretext of conducting religious activities. Over the years, he repeatedly changed his identity and residence to avoid capture.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay and led by Nawalgarh Station Officer Ajay Singh, using a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance. The special team carried out careful reconnaissance in disguise before successfully apprehending the accused.
Fraud Disguised as Religious Work
According to police, on 2 July 2010, a complaint was filed at Nawalgarh police station stating that Maulana Hasim collected donations in villages and cities under the pretext of running a madrasa and conducting religious programs. He claimed that a relative needed funds for cancer treatment, soliciting ₹5–6 lakh and promising property documents as collateral. On 22 June 2010, the complainant gave him ₹5 lakh in good faith. Thereafter, Hasim cut off all contact and went into hiding, disappearing from Madrasa Ferozepur Jhirka as well. A case of cheating and forgery was registered, and investigations began.
Declared Absconding by Court
After completion of the investigation, a chargesheet was filed against him on 23 December 2010, but Hasim failed to appear in court. Consequently, the court declared him absconding, and police efforts to apprehend him remained unsuccessful for over a decade.
Arrested in Todabhim
Finally, police disguised as financiers conducted reconnaissance in the area where the accused was believed to be hiding. On 4 January 2026, he was arrested from Pahadi Balaghat, Todabhim, Karauli district. The accused has been identified as Maulana Hasim, son of Ghasita, resident of Sahanaka, Bharatpur district. He is now in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
