Mau Sadar MLA Abbas Ansari Produced in Court; Charges Framed Under Representation of the People Act

Mau, Uttar Pradesh:
Mau Sadar MLA Abbas Ansari, representing the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Mau on Wednesday in connection with a case related to the violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The court framed charges against him under the Representation of the People Act, marking a significant development in the case.

The case pertains to Crime No. 27/2022, registered at Dakshin Tola police station during the 2022 Assembly elections. Abbas Ansari was accused of violating election norms by allegedly taking out a roadshow without prior permission and using hired vehicles during election campaigning, in contravention of prescribed rules.

Originally, charges were filed against him under Sections 171-H and 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with Section 133 of the Representation of the People Act. However, Ansari had approached the Allahabad High Court, which granted him partial relief. The High Court observed that no offence was made out under IPC Sections 171-H and 188 and subsequently quashed these charges.

Charges Framed Under Election Law

Following the High Court’s order, proceedings continued under Section 133 of the Representation of the People Act. On Wednesday, the CJM court framed charges under the said provision and fixed the case for recording of evidence, paving the way for examination of witnesses and presentation of material evidence in the coming hearings.

Tight Security During Court Appearance

Given the sensitivity of the case, elaborate security arrangements were put in place in and around the court परिसर. Abbas Ansari was brought to the court amid heavy police deployment and was taken back after completion of the formal legal proceedings.

The matter remains sub judice, and further hearings will be conducted on scheduled dates as the trial proceeds. The case continues to draw attention due to its political significance and its linkage to alleged violations of electoral norms during the 2022 Assembly elections.
