Matrimonial Website Romance Turns into ₹64 Lakh Scam in Indore

Indore, Jan 29, 2026: A divorced man searching for a life partner on a matrimonial website fell victim to a meticulously planned “Pig Butching Scam,” losing nearly ₹64 lakh to a woman who posed as a romantic interest and investment advisor.

According to police reports, the victim, an Indore resident, came across the profile of a woman named Kyra Malhotra on a divorcee-focused matrimonial platform. What started as casual conversation gradually developed into daily calls, messages, and emotional intimacy. Over time, the woman convinced him that she was a financial advisor capable of generating high returns through the stock market.

She introduced him to an online investment group, where screenshots of profits and claims of lucrative returns were shared to deepen his trust. Relying on this trust and emotional connection, the man invested approximately ₹64 lakh in multiple installments. When he later attempted to withdraw the money, the woman offered technical excuses and eventually cut off all contact. It was only then that the victim realized he had been defrauded.

Additional DCP of Crime Branch, Rajesh Dandotia, confirmed that this was a “Pig Butching Scam”—a scheme in which fraudsters first establish romantic or emotional trust, then coax victims into making large investments in stocks, crypto, or other schemes.

The Indore Crime Branch has registered a formal FIR and is investigating all bank accounts involved in the transfers. Police officials said this is likely the first case of its kind reported in Madhya Pradesh and assured that the culprits would soon be identified and arrested.
