Massive Heroin Haul from Pakistan Seized in Punjab; Police Bust Drug Trafficking Network, 103 Packets Recovered

Chandigarh/Punjab: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police have intercepted a large consignment of heroin smuggled from Pakistan into India. The Amritsar Rural Police recovered 103 packets, weighing a total of 51.5 kilograms. The drugs are estimated to be worth a significant amount in the market. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and further interrogations are underway.

The investigation revealed that the accused were collaborating with handlers based in Pakistan to facilitate cross-border drug trafficking. Detailed examination of mobile phones has provided crucial communication trails and other digital evidence linking them to the network. Police are now pursuing the case to uncover the full chain of the drug trafficking operation.

An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Gharinda police station. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing to identify additional links in the network. Following this seizure, Punjab Police reiterated their commitment to dismantling narcotics-terror and drug smuggling networks and making the state drug-free. The state government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has been actively working towards a drug-free Punjab.

This is not the first such seizure in the region. In September 2025, Punjab Police had recovered 25 kilograms of heroin in Amritsar. Several joint operations by the BSF and Punjab Police have previously led to the confiscation of large quantities of narcotics. In a related action, a female constable, Amandeep Kaur, had been dismissed in connection with the earlier heroin case.
