Massive Explosive Haul in Nagaur: 9.55 Tons of Ammonium Nitrate Seized, NIA and IB Investigate

Nagaur, Rajasthan: Security agencies in Rajasthan have raised alarms following the seizure of a massive quantity of explosives in Nagaur just ahead of Republic Day celebrations. Approximately 9,550 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were recovered, prompting the Home Ministry to issue an alert. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) have deployed teams to Nagaur and commenced a detailed investigation.

Investigations Focus on Harsaur Village Farm
IB officials reached a farm in Harsaur village, Nagaur, where the explosives were recovered. A thorough inspection of the site and collection of critical evidence were carried out. The farm house of the arrested accused, Suleman Khan, was also extensively searched. Preliminary intelligence inputs suggest the possible involvement of a larger network and a premeditated plot.

Explosives Stashed in 187 Bags
The explosives, discovered on Saturday, were packed into 187 bags containing a total of 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate. In addition to the ammonium nitrate, the haul included a significant quantity of detonators and fuse wires, according to Nagaur SP Mridul Kachhawa. Suleman Khan was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Accused Hospitalized Before Interrogation
Suleman Khan’s health deteriorated suddenly before questioning could begin. Thawla police station in-charge Ashok Kumar Jhajharia stated that the accused was first admitted to Thawla hospital and later referred to Ajmer. Preliminary examination revealed high blood pressure.

Previous Explosives Seizure in Tonk
Prior to the Nagaur seizure, 150 kg of ammonium nitrate explosives were recovered from a car in Tonk on 31 December. Two individuals transporting the explosives in urea fertilizer bags were arrested near Chiraunj village on National Highway-52, under Barouni police jurisdiction. This case is also under investigation by the NIA.
