Marriage Dispute Turns Fatal in Karnataka: 35-Year-Old Son Kills Father Over Long-Standing Family Tensions

Bengaluru:
In a shocking incident from Karnataka’s Chitradurga district, a 35-year-old man allegedly killed his father following a prolonged dispute over marriage and family issues. The accused, identified as S. Ningraja, was reportedly upset that his father had not arranged his marriage, while himself having married twice.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night in Hosadurga town, police said. According to investigators, the dispute escalated after an argument between the father and son over the issue of marriage, which had been a long-standing source of tension within the family.

Anger Over Father’s Two Marriages

As per the complaint filed by the elder son S. Maruti, Ningraja frequently argued with his father T. Sannalingappa, blaming him for remaining unmarried at the age of 35. He was particularly resentful that his father had entered into a second marriage without informing him.

Family members told police that Ningraja often taunted his father over having two wives while failing to arrange his son’s marriage. This resentment had reportedly been simmering for years.

Family Discord and Frequent Clashes

Police sources said the father-son relationship was strained due to multiple issues. Sannalingappa often scolded Ningraja for showing little interest in farming and urged him to work harder in the fields. These disagreements frequently led to heated arguments.

On Wednesday night, the situation worsened during dinner when Ningraja allegedly threatened to kill his father following a verbal altercation.

Attack While Father Was Asleep

According to the police, the fatal attack occurred around midnight when Ningraja allegedly assaulted his father with an iron rod while he was asleep. A relative later informed Maruti about the incident, prompting him to rush home.

Sannalingappa sustained severe head injuries and was immediately taken to the Hosadurga hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Accused Arrested, Probe Underway

Following Maruti’s formal complaint, the police registered a murder case and arrested Ningraja. The accused is currently in custody, and further investigation is underway to reconstruct the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting how prolonged domestic disputes and unresolved family tensions can take a tragic turn.
