Mathura, Uttar Pradesh: A Mathura court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the 2023 murder of a Delhi woman he had befriended on Facebook. The Additional District Judge (ADJ-04) on Tuesday convicted Saddam Hussain and imposed a fine of ₹31,000, citing strong evidence presented during the trial.
The case dates back to July 2023, when the victim, Joura Khatun, a resident of Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, travelled to Mathura after being called by the accused on the pretext of meeting her and helping her obtain medicines. According to the prosecution, soon after she arrived, Hussain attacked her repeatedly with a knife near the Cantt Kali temple area. She later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Before her death, the victim gave a statement to police identifying Saddam Hussain as her attacker, which became a key piece of evidence in the case.
The investigation was pursued on priority under the Uttar Pradesh Police’s “Operation Conviction” initiative led by the Director General of Police. Officials said coordinated efforts by the Senior Superintendent of Police and the prosecution ensured that strong documentary and witness evidence was presented in court.
Based on the evidence, the court found Hussain guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Arms Act. The judge observed that strict punishment was necessary in such heinous crimes to send a strong message to society.
