Man Arrested in Badaun for Posting Objectionable Remarks on Social Media; Issues Apology After Police Action

Badaun: Tension briefly escalated in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district after a local resident allegedly posted objectionable and derogatory comments about Hindu deities on social media. The incident triggered protests from several Hindu organisations, prompting police action.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Ishaq alias Nanhe, a resident of Sheikhupur under the Civil Lines police station area, had uploaded the controversial remarks on his Facebook account. As the post began circulating widely, community members expressed anger and approached the police demanding strict legal action.

Complaint Filed; Police Respond Swiftly

According to reports, representatives of Hindu organisations reached the Civil Lines police station and submitted a written complaint. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the police immediately registered a case and detained the accused for questioning.

Police officials stated that such posts have the potential to disturb communal harmony and therefore require prompt action under relevant laws.

Accused Frequently Posted Provocative Content, Say Protesters

Local organisations alleged that Ishaq had previously shared objectionable content targeting religious sentiments and had repeatedly engaged in online behaviour that could disturb peace in the area. They demanded stringent legal proceedings to set a deterrent example and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Social Media Misuse a Growing Concern

Authorities noted that cases of misuse of social media platforms are being reported not only from Uttar Pradesh but across the country. Despite regular awareness drives and legal actions, some individuals continue to share inflammatory content online, risking social discord.

Police officials reiterated that anyone found guilty of posting material that hurts religious sentiments or threatens public order will face strict consequences under the law.
