Greater Noida: The long-awaited Noida International Airport is now just steps away from becoming operational. A major development has come to light indicating that flight operations may begin as early as this December.
According to officials, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has completed the inspection of all security systems at the airport and finalized its report. This report will be forwarded to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for further action.
Shailendra Bhatia, Nodal Officer of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), informed that the BCAS team had initially conducted a two-day inspection of the airport’s security infrastructure. However, due to certain minor shortcomings, the team revisited the airport on Monday to re-examine specific systems.
The comprehensive inspection covered scanning systems, CCTV surveillance, entry control points, perimeter security, anti-hijacking measures, bomb squad readiness, and 3D radar installations. The BCAS is expected to submit the final report to the DGCA by December 2.
DGCA Likely to Announce Aerodrome License on December 4
Based on the BCAS report, the DGCA is scheduled to grant the aerodrome license on December 4. Sources indicate that the airport could be inaugurated within a week of receiving the license. However, the Uttar Pradesh government has not yet announced an official inauguration date.
The construction of the airport’s first phase—spanning 1,334 hectares—has already been completed.
Airport Fully Equipped with Advanced Facilities
The Noida International Airport boasts a fully functional runway, taxiways, an integrated terminal building, and extensive parking facilities. Technical trials related to baggage handling, boarding systems, security checks, and passenger movement have also been successfully completed.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the on-ground preparations on November 27. Initially, the airport will begin with domestic flights and cargo operations, with expansion planned in subsequent phases.
