Major Religious Conversion Racket Exposed in Kanpur; Alvin Arrested for Misleading People with Claims of Supernatural Powers

Kanpur: A major religious conversion racket has come to light in Ghatampur, Kanpur. The police have arrested Alvin from Kerala, who allegedly lured people into converting by promising financial benefits and claiming miraculous powers.

According to local sources, Alvin misled people by asserting that his deity possessed powers capable of curing serious illnesses like cancer. The police recovered files, important documents, and a large quantity of promotional material from his possession.

The Ghatampur police are currently investigating Alvin’s network and funding sources. Following complaints, Bajrang Dal activists raided a house in Nauranga where Alvin was conducting a prayer meeting, recording videos of the gathering. The police subsequently intervened and arrested Alvin, who had claimed to treat an elderly woman through prayers.

Investigations revealed that Alvin hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. According to a written complaint by Jahanabad resident Mukesh Kumar, Alvin was inducing people to convert to Christianity using financial incentives. Local residents stated that Alvin moved to the town with his family ten years ago. Initially renting a home, he later purchased land in 2022 and built a house. However, he neither held a job nor ran a business, raising suspicions about external funding.

Alvin conducted prayer gatherings and “house churches” in several villages, hosting large Sunday congregations at his residence. On Wednesday, his wife and other residents from Madepur reached Ghatampur police station to lodge complaints against Bajrang Dal activists, alleging verbal abuse and physical assault during the raid.

The police continue to investigate Alvin’s activities and his network of religious conversion operations in the area.
