Major Crackdown on Illegal Codeine Syrup Trade in Ghazipur, Properties Worth ₹1.85 Crore Seized

Ghazipur:
In a major action against the illegal trade of codeine-based cough syrup, the Ghazipur Police have temporarily seized properties worth ₹1.85 crore belonging to absconding accused Shubham Singh, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Shubham Singh, the owner of Nityansh Medical Agency, has been on the run for a long time in connection with the narcotics racket.

Property Frozen Under Legal Provisions

Providing details to the media, Superintendent of Police Eraj Raja said that the seized property is located in Dheerajotpur village under Bhudkuda police station limits. Although the property is registered in the name of the accused’s mother, Neelam Devi, investigations revealed that it was purchased using money earned from the illegal codeine syrup business.

“The property has been provisionally attached after evidence confirmed that it was acquired through proceeds of crime,” the SP said.

Multiple Medical Firms Under Scanner

The case was originally registered at Sadar Kotwali Police Station based on a complaint filed by the Drug Inspector of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA). A total of six medical firms, including Nityansh Medical Agency, have been named in the FIR.

During the investigation, police found that several consignments linked to this syndicate were seized near the Bangladesh border. Verification of serial numbers on the seized consignments confirmed that they were supplied through the same network.

Several Arrests Made, Probe Continues

SP Eraj Raja stated that multiple accused have already been arrested in the case, while questioning of other suspects is underway. He assured that strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved in the racket.

“The police will continue to pursue all individuals connected to this illegal trade and ensure they are brought to justice,” he said.

The crackdown is part of the state-wide drive to curb the misuse and trafficking of pharmaceutical drugs for narcotic purposes.
