Manish Singh, Noida: In a significant administrative action following the tragic death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, the Noida Authority has dissolved the Noida Traffic Cell (NTC) and the Public Health Department.
Yuvraj Mehta had drowned in a deep pit dug at a construction site in Sector-150, Noida, late on the night of January 16. The pit was reportedly excavated for the basement of an under-construction commercial building.
Authority Takes Strict Step Against Alleged Negligence
After the incident triggered widespread outrage and raised serious questions about negligence, the Noida Authority has initiated departmental action against officials held responsible for failing to ensure public safety.
Vishwas Tyagi, in-charge of the Noida Authority’s traffic cell and Work Circle-6, has been accused of serious dereliction of duty. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against him, and he has been removed from his post and attached to the personnel department.
SIT Report Still Awaited Despite Completion of Probe
The Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. Although the SIT has reportedly completed its investigation and submitted its report to the government, the report has not yet been made public, and further action based on its findings remains pending.
Meanwhile, two officials from the Noida Authority’s civil and public health departments have been transferred to other locations.
Chief Minister Took Immediate Cognizance
The case gained momentum after allegations surfaced that authorities ignored earlier complaints and failed to act in time, leading to Yuvraj Mehta’s death due to delayed rescue and poor safety measures.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally took cognizance of the incident and ordered immediate action. Following his directions, a four-member SIT was formed under the leadership of ADG Meerut Zone Bhanu Bhaskar.
Responsibilities Handed Over to Work Circle Officers
After the dissolution of the NTC and Public Health Department, their responsibilities have now been assigned to Work Circle officers. The new CEO of the Noida Authority has also reshuffled the jurisdictions of several Work Circle in-charges.
Noida Authority has a total of 10 Work Circles, and following the incident, major administrative changes have been made across almost all circles.
Safety Review Initiated Across the City
After the tragedy, barricading was installed at the accident site and corrective measures, including installation of street lights and other safety improvements, were carried out. The new CEO has called for a review meeting to assess open drains and pits across Noida and has directed officials to submit reports and begin urgent repair and safety work.
