Agra:
The city of Agra witnessed intense police action early Thursday morning as the Uttar Pradesh Police carried out multiple encounters in connection with the high-profile Raj Chauhan murder case. In one of the encounters, the main accused, Arbaaz Khan alias Mansoori, was killed, while two other wanted criminals sustained bullet injuries.
The injured accused have been identified as Mohit Pandit and Ashu, both carrying a reward of ₹25,000 each. Two police personnel were also injured during the operation and have been admitted to hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Murder Triggered by Gang Rivalry
Raj Chauhan, a known history-sheeter, was shot dead on January 23 in the Trans-Yamuna area of Agra. He was facing three criminal cases, including murder. Chauhan had been released from jail in December last year and had allegedly been expanding his criminal network since then.
Police sources said the killing was the result of an intense gang rivalry and struggle for dominance in the area.
Massive Show of Strength After Jail Release
According to officials, Chauhan’s influence had grown rapidly. After his release from prison, a large procession was reportedly taken out in his support, involving around 200 youths, nearly a dozen cars, and over 40 motorcycles, following which a separate case had been registered for unlawful display of power.
Encounter During Weapon Recovery
Following the murder, nine police teams were deployed to trace the accused. Police said Arbaaz Khan had been arrested and was being taken for recovery of the weapon used in the crime.
During the operation, Khan allegedly snatched a service pistol from a sub-inspector and attempted to flee, opening fire at the police team.
In the firing, constable Manoj Kumar and sub-inspector Rishi sustained injuries. Bullets also struck the bulletproof jackets of Trans-Yamuna Station House Officer Harendra Kumar and Kotwali Inspector Bhanu Pratap, narrowly saving their lives.
Police retaliated in self-defence, during which Arbaaz Khan was critically injured and later declared dead.
Investigation Continues
Senior police officials stated that separate encounters took place at three locations during the operation. The injured accused are under treatment and will be produced before the court after recovery.
The police have reiterated that the action was carried out strictly in accordance with law and that further investigation into the murder conspiracy is ongoing.
