Maihar, Madhya Pradesh: In a swift and strategic operation, Maihar police have arrested three men accused of gang-raping a 14-year-old girl. The accused had been hiding in the dense forests of Ramnagar since the incident, which occurred on the evening of 17 December near the hill village along Amarpatan Road.
Accused Hiding in Forests
Following the crime, the accused—Vimlesh Kol (resident of Vanshipur), Ajay Kol, and Manish Kol (both residents of Bharouli)—evaded the authorities by taking refuge in nearby forests. Vimlesh Kol is a known criminal with a prior record of robbery in Nadand Dehat police jurisdiction.
Mobile Location Leads to Arrest
According to police officials, their breakthrough came when one of the accused switched on a mobile phone to contact an acquaintance. Using mobile location tracking, the police traced their whereabouts and conducted a raid in the forest on Monday, arresting all three.
Evidence Seized
Police seized the motorcycle used in the crime and mobile phones from the accused. A disturbing video related to the incident was also recovered from one of the devices. While most incriminating photos and videos had been deleted by the suspects, the cyber cell is assisting in recovering additional evidence.
Police Action
A total of four special teams were formed to conduct continuous searches and gather technical evidence to locate the accused. The police have stated that this decisive action demonstrates their commitment to bringing offenders to justice and ensuring the safety of vulnerable citizens.
