Mahoba Tragedy: Harassed Student Records Video While Consuming Poison, Dies; Accused Youth Booked

A heart-wrenching incident has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district, where a 21-year-old student allegedly driven to despair by prolonged harassment consumed poison and died. Before taking the extreme step, the young woman recorded a video while ingesting the poison and sent it to the accused, holding him responsible for her death.

The incident has triggered shock and grief in the region, while police have registered a case and launched an investigation based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family.

Victim Sends Video Blaming Harassment

The incident took place in Chandauli village under Charkhari Kotwali limits. The deceased, identified as Priya (21), daughter of Ram Bhagat, was reportedly being harassed for several years by a youth from a neighbouring village.

On Tuesday, Priya allegedly consumed poison at her home and recorded a video during the act, which she later sent via WhatsApp to the accused youth. In the video message, she wrote:
“You wanted me to die, didn’t you? Now your wish will come true. Be happy now, you are free. You troubled me a lot.”

Soon after, she lost consciousness.

Dies While Being Taken to Hospital

As her condition deteriorated, family members rushed Priya to a local hospital, from where she was referred to Jhansi Medical College due to her critical condition. However, she succumbed to the effects of the poison on the way near Mauranipur.

Her death plunged the family into deep mourning and sparked outrage in the village.

Family Alleges Four Years of Harassment

The victim’s father stated that Priya was a bright and promising student. He alleged that the accused, identified as Ramnaresh, had been harassing his daughter for nearly four years. Despite repeated complaints and even confronting the accused’s family, the harassment allegedly continued.

Unable to cope with the mental trauma, the student took the fatal step, the family claimed.

Case Registered, Probe Underway

Additional Superintendent of Police Vandana Singh said that police acted immediately upon receiving information. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and the video recovered from the victim’s mobile phone is being examined as key evidence.

“A case has been registered based on the written complaint. All aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated. Teams have been formed to arrest the accused, and he will be taken into custody soon,” the ASP said.

Village in Mourning

The tragic death of a young and talented student has cast a pall of gloom over the village. Family members and locals have demanded strict action against the accused, holding him directly responsible for pushing the student toward suicide.

The case has once again brought to the forefront serious concerns over harassment, stalking, and the psychological toll such acts take on young women, underlining the urgent need for timely intervention and stronger social accountability.
