Tiger Memon Family Properties in Mumbai to Be Auctioned: Includes Flats Linked to 1993 Serial Bomb Blasts

Mumbai: The properties of Tiger Memon, the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, and his family are set to be auctioned soon, including the flat where a key conspiracy meeting took place. Authorities said the Special TADA Court has provided details of 17 properties belonging to Tiger Memon and his family to SAFEMA (Smuggling and Foreign Exchange Manipulation Act Authority) for further action.

Properties Under SAFEMA Control

Out of the 17 properties, SAFEMA has taken possession of eight properties, including three flats in the Al Husaini Building in Mahim, Mumbai, where Tiger Memon, his five brothers, and his mother resided.

Tiger Memon has been absconding in Pakistan since the March 12, 1993 blasts that killed at least 257 people across 12 locations in Mumbai. His brother, Yakub Memon, was executed in 2015 for his role in the conspiracy, while other family members received varying prison sentences from the TADA court for their involvement in terrorist activities.

Upcoming Auction

Officials stated that four other properties are under litigation, and five more are in the process of seizure. The government is in the process of valuing the eight confiscated properties, and legal formalities are expected to conclude soon. The auction process may begin by December or January.

Historical Seizure of Flats

According to the CBI, a key conspiracy meeting for the blasts was held in one of the Al Husaini Building flats. The Memon family owned three flats on the fifth and sixth floors, which were seized 34 years ago following the blasts and reopened in April this year for administrative purposes.

Other High-Value Properties

The Memon family also owns a 10,000 sq. meter plot in Kole Kalyan, Vakola, valued at around ₹400 crore, though SAFEMA has not yet taken possession due to encroachments. Additionally, SAFEMA is in the process of taking over another property in South Mumbai’s Javheri Market area.

Flats and Shops Across Mumbai

Authorities revealed that the auction will also include a flat in Bandra and two flats in Kapadia Nagar, Kurla once SAFEMA takes possession. Moreover, there are four shops in South Mumbai’s Manish Market, jointly owned by Tiger Memon and Mohammad Dossa, whose handover is pending due to an ongoing appeal in the court.

This auction marks a significant step in the recovery of assets linked to one of India’s most notorious terrorist conspiracies, reflecting continued enforcement of anti-terrorism laws decades after the tragic events of 1993.
