
Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking incident of ragging has come to light at KMC Medical College in Maharajganj, where two first-year MBBS students were allegedly beaten and humiliated by senior students. During the attack, both students lost consciousness, and were later admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Incident Details
The victims, originally from Cantt area of Varanasi and Shadiabad area of Ghazipur, were reportedly heading somewhere late on Monday night when they were intercepted by second-year MBBS students. When the juniors refused to participate in ragging rituals, the seniors allegedly assaulted them, forcing them to clean shoes and subjected them to various forms of humiliation. One student fainted during the attack.
College Authorities Respond
Upon receiving information about the incident, college faculty and security personnel rushed to the scene. Senior students reportedly fled before the college authorities arrived. The victims called the emergency helpline (Dial-112) and alerted the police. After speaking with the students, the police informed their families. Both injured students were taken to a hospital, where their relatives also arrived.
Police Action
Based on the complaint filed by the victims’ families, the Kotwali Police registered a case against seven senior students involved in the ragging. Maharajganj SP Somendra Meena confirmed that the accused are being investigated, and the college’s anti-ragging committee will also be informed. The medical college administration has initiated its own internal inquiry into the incident.
