
Gwalior, MP: In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves across Gwalior district, a widow was attacked with acid by her brother-in-law after she refused to marry him. The victim sustained severe burns on her face, chest, and limbs. Acting promptly on her complaint, police have arrested the accused.
The Incident
The incident took place in the Avadpura area under Kampoo Police Station, a Muslim-dominated locality. On Friday evening, the victim’s brother-in-law, Musheer Khan, arrived at her parental home carrying a bottle of acid. He had been pressuring the widow to marry him. When she firmly refused, he threw acid on her, causing serious injuries to her face, chest, arms, and legs. At the time of the attack, the victim was engaged in household work, chopping vegetables.
Victim’s Background
The widow had lost her husband nine months ago due to illness. He had a history of alcohol addiction. Since then, she has been living at her parental home with her 10-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. The accused, also widowed, allegedly wanted to marry her and had been visiting under the pretext of meeting her children.
Police Action
Upon receiving the complaint, Gwalior Police conducted raids at potential hideouts and arrested the accused late at night. The case has been officially registered, and the accused is currently under interrogation. The victim has been admitted to Jai Rogya Hospital’s burn unit for treatment.
Public Outrage
The shocking attack has highlighted the dangers of domestic coercion and harassment and raised concerns about the safety of widows in vulnerable situations. Police have urged anyone with information related to the accused to come forward.
