Bhopal AIIMS to Launch Madhya Pradesh’s First Centralized Cancer Block by 2026 with Advanced Facilities

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal is set to inaugurate the state’s first centralized cancer block by 2026, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities under one roof. The new block will feature state-of-the-art equipment including Gamma Knife and PET-CT scans, providing comprehensive care for over 36,000 cancer patients who visit AIIMS Bhopal annually.

Currently, cancer patients face long waiting periods of six months to a year for essential investigations like CT scans and MRIs. The centralized cancer block aims to address this issue by offering screening, diagnosis, chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, mental health counseling, and stem cell treatment all in one location. This integrated approach will minimize patient movement between different departments and prioritize treatment for severe cases.

Streamlined Treatment Under One Roof
Until now, patients had to navigate multiple departments for different treatments – scans at one place, surgery at another, and radiation therapy elsewhere. With the new block, all specialists will collaborate under a single platform to provide personalized and coordinated care based on the patient’s condition.

Smart Screening System for Early Detection
A state-of-the-art screening unit will be set up in the new block, where every patient will undergo initial evaluation. Doctors will determine whether a patient is affected by cancer and categorize cases based on severity. Critical patients will receive priority treatment with minimal waiting, while those under suspicion will be referred for further tests.

High Demand from Across the State
AIIMS Bhopal treats over 36,000 cancer patients each year, with nearly 60% coming from outside the city. Districts such as Agar Malwa (3,664 cases), Raisen (1,776), Vidisha (1,536), Narmadapuram (1,216), Sagar (1,072), and Rewa (944) contribute the highest number of patients due to their geographic proximity. This centralized block is expected to significantly improve access to timely and high-quality cancer care for patients from across Madhya Pradesh.

AIIMS Administration Statement
Hospital authorities emphasized that the new centralized block will ensure that all necessary cancer treatment and consultation services are available under one roof, reducing patient stress and delays in care. By 2026, the block is expected to become a pioneering facility for cancer care in the state, combining modern technology, expert doctors, and coordinated patient management.
