Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh government has presented the Economic Survey 2025-26 in the state assembly, providing a comprehensive overview of the state’s economy ahead of the upcoming budget. The report, a key step toward the vision of “Developed Madhya Pradesh @2047”, highlights strong economic growth, rising per capita income, and the government’s focus on farmers, youth, women, and infrastructure development.

Here are the five main takeaways from the survey:

1. Growth in Agriculture and Farmers’ Income
Agriculture remains a major pillar of Madhya Pradesh’s economy, contributing 43.09% to the state’s GDP. The government’s Bhavantar Payment Scheme helps farmers receive the difference between market prices and minimum support prices directly into their bank accounts. Livestock production has grown 10.81%, offering new income sources for farmers. The state aims to increase fish production to 1 million metric tons by 2047.

2. Focus on Women’s Empowerment
Women’s economic and social empowerment is a key priority. Initiatives like the Women Empowerment Mega Conference in Bhopal and the ODOP (One District One Product) exhibition have given women entrepreneurs national recognition. In healthcare, the government aims to reduce maternal mortality from the current 142 to below 20.

3. New Employment Opportunities for Youth
Schemes such as the Swami Vivekananda Yuva Shakti Mission and skill development programs are equipping youth for emerging job markets. Partnerships with 14 educational institutions aim to align technical training with industry needs. The survey estimates that industrial and other developmental activities will create over 929,000 employment opportunities in the state. Increased investment in sports and recreation also supports youth engagement.

4. Significant Industrial Investment
The government is promoting MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) through capacity building and technology upgrades. In 2025, around 8,000 MSMEs participated in training workshops. Digital platforms, including e-Mandi, are easing business processes. Madhya Pradesh ranks 9th among Indian states in exports and is pursuing industrial investment proposals worth ₹11.71 lakh crore.

5. Better Public Services and Rising Per Capita Income
The state’s per capita net income is projected to rise to ₹1,69,050 (advance estimate for 2025-26). Millions of rural and urban households have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Healthcare services are being expanded through Ayushman Bharat, and infrastructure investments aim to raise life expectancy from 67 to 84 years. The government has also launched Mission 2047: Insurance for All, to extend banking and insurance facilities to every citizen.

The survey paints a picture of a rapidly developing Madhya Pradesh, with agriculture, industry, youth, and women at the center of its growth story.
