Madhubani: In an extraordinary story of resilience, dignity and unwavering determination, 57-year-old advocate Anita Jha from Bihar’s Madhubani district has transformed the back seat of her car into a courtroom of justice. For the past 13 years, she has been practising law not from a traditional chamber, but from her parked car inside the district court premises.
Every morning at around 10:30 am, a white hatchback rolls into the Madhubani district court parking area. For most, it may appear to be just another vehicle. For Anita Jha, however, it is a fully functional legal office—her chamber, consultation room and workspace combined. From this modest setup, she meets clients, prepares cases, drafts petitions and devises legal strategies, proving that the pursuit of justice needs resolve more than infrastructure.
Turning Constraint into Opportunity
When Anita Jha began practising at the district court, she was unable to secure a designated chamber. Instead of resigning herself to frustration or complaining about systemic shortcomings, she chose an unconventional but determined path. She converted her car into her office, using its back seat as her workspace.
Whether in biting winter cold or scorching summer heat, her car remains her professional sanctuary. From 10 am to 5 pm every working day, the vehicle is parked at a fixed spot near the jail van inside the court complex. There, amid the bustle of the court, she conducts legal consultations and prepares for hearings with unwavering focus.
A Landmark of Trust
Over the years, Anita Jha’s distinctive white car has become a familiar landmark in the Madhubani court परिसर. The steady presence of clients gathered outside is testimony to the trust she has earned through her work. Neither the lack of conventional facilities nor the noise and chaos of the court complex have diminished her credibility or commitment.
Her routine has remained unchanged for over a decade, reflecting a discipline and consistency that many find inspiring.
A Career Rooted in Determination
Born in 1968, Anita Jha was inspired to pursue law by her father, who worked in the court system. She began her LLB studies in 1989 and was the only woman in her batch at the time—a reflection of the challenges she would continue to face and overcome.
In a legal career spanning decades, she has handled nearly 20,000 cases. She is widely regarded as an expert in cases related to the POCSO Act, dowry harassment and matrimonial disputes, areas that demand both legal acumen and emotional strength.
A Living Symbol of Perseverance
Anita Jha’s journey stands as a powerful reminder that adversity can be transformed into opportunity with courage and self-respect. Where many might have seen limitation, she created purpose—turning the back seat of her car into a “temple of justice.”
Her story is not just about practising law; it is about redefining dignity, resilience and commitment in the service of justice.
