The investigation into the deadly Goa nightclub fire has intensified as authorities move swiftly to bring back the club owners, popularly known as the Luthra Brothers, who allegedly fled the country instead of reporting to the accident site. Indian agencies, with the support of the Indian Embassy in Thailand, have initiated the deportation process, and a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is expected to escort them back to India shortly.
The Luthra Brothers—identified as Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the now-charred nightclub ‘Burch by Romeo Lane’ in Goa’s Arpora area—came under scrutiny after a massive fire at their establishment claimed 25 lives. Shockingly, within hours of the tragic incident on the night of December 6, the brothers allegedly fled India and travelled to Thailand, even as rescue operations were underway at the site.
Following the incident, the Government of India suspended their passports, after which Thai authorities detained them for overstaying illegally. Sources confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Bangkok, in coordination with Thai officials, is facilitating their deportation. Since their passports have been cancelled, the embassy is issuing emergency one-way travel documents to enable their return to India.
A CBI team reached Thailand on Saturday to complete the necessary legal and administrative formalities. According to official sources, the brothers could be deported to India as early as Monday night, and a major update is expected within the next few hours.
Confirming the development, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told The Times of India that the investigation team has already reached Thailand and the process of bringing the accused back is underway. Goa Director General of Police Alok Kumar also expressed confidence that the Luthra Brothers would soon be in Indian custody.
Preliminary investigations into the fire have revealed serious lapses in safety measures at the nightclub. Once brought back, the brothers are likely to be interrogated by Anjuna Police as part of the ongoing probe.
The tragic incident has triggered widespread outrage and renewed questions about regulatory oversight and safety compliance in Goa’s nightlife industry. Authorities have assured strict action against those responsible and reiterated their commitment to justice for the victims and their families.
