Lucknow: In a shocking incident in Gomtinagar, Lucknow, the police have unveiled the circumstances behind the death of a woman whose body was discovered earlier this week. Two suspects, Devendra Singh from Kanpur and Suraj Pal from Sairpur, have been arrested in connection with the case after police scrutinized nearly 400 CCTV footage clips.
Incident Details
According to DCP East Shashank Singh, the body of the victim, identified as Rekha Gupta from Aliganj, was found on 1st December in Vishalkhand-2. Following a complaint lodged by her family, the police registered a case under the category of unidentified murder and formed five investigative teams to probe the incident. With limited leads, officers combed through CCTV footage, spoke to local shopkeepers, pedestrians, and residents, and eventually identified the suspects.
Sequence of Events
Investigations revealed that on the night of 30th November, Rekha met rickshaw driver Devendra Singh near a liquor store after his duty hours. During their ride, a discussion over drinking alcohol and physical relations took place. Devendra then took Rekha to a hut where Suraj Pal was already present. The trio consumed alcohol, and the suspects allegedly pressured Rekha for physical relations. When Rekha demanded money and threatened to alert the police, the situation escalated.
The suspects reportedly pushed Rekha, causing her to lose consciousness. In a panic, Devendra and Suraj left her in Gomtinagar and fled. Her body was discovered the following morning. Authorities have stated that the exact cause of death is yet to be determined and will be clarified by the post-mortem report.
Ongoing Investigation
Police continue to investigate the case thoroughly, including forensic analysis and witness interrogation, to determine the full circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
