Lucknow, Jan 14:
Facing severe traffic congestion in the state capital, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and in-charge of Lucknow, Suresh Khanna, has issued strict instructions to officials to devise a comprehensive traffic plan and restrict the entry of heavy vehicles near the Assembly gates.
Tackling Growing Traffic Challenges
Lucknow’s increasing population and vehicle count, along with daily inflow from neighboring districts, have made traffic management a major challenge. Despite traffic diversions at several major intersections, jams frequently disrupt city life. Taking cognizance of the issue, Minister Suresh Khanna has directed officials to conduct on-site inspections at all key intersections and implement measures that minimize inconvenience to citizens.
Key Directives
The Cabinet Minister has specifically restricted the entry of heavy vehicles at Assembly Gate Nos. 7 and 8 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. He instructed that all responsible authorities, including traffic police, LDA, and municipal officials, form a dedicated committee to survey congested areas, plan diversions, barricades, and one-way routes, and ensure their effective implementation.
Integration with Civic Services
During a meeting at Naimisharanya Guest House with the DM, Municipal Commissioner, elected representatives, and police officials, Suresh Khanna emphasized the need for systematic development of civic infrastructure to ease traffic congestion. He stressed that field inspections must be carried out regularly and remedial actions implemented promptly.
Voter Awareness Initiative
Minister Khanna also highlighted ongoing efforts to update the electoral rolls. With the draft voter list released, officials and representatives are tasked with ensuring that all eligible voters verify their names and submit Form-6 and declarations if required. The process is available both online and offline to guarantee full voter inclusion.
Through these measures, the Lucknow administration aims to significantly reduce traffic snarls and streamline civic management in the state capital.
