Lucknow Police Bust House-Breaking Gang; Three Arrested, Jewellery Worth ₹30 Lakh Recovered

Lucknow:
In a major breakthrough, Lucknow Police have busted a gang involved in a series of burglaries at locked houses across the city. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested three accused and recovered gold and silver jewellery worth nearly ₹30 lakh, along with cash and the car used in the crimes. Two members of the gang are still absconding.

Police claim this is the same gang that carried out the high-profile burglary last month at the residence of SDM Anamika Srivastava in Madiyaon.

Gang Targeted Locked Houses During Festivals

During Diwali in October, several thefts were reported from different localities, with one pattern in common — all targeted houses were locked for several days. On the night of 23 October, the SDM’s house was also looted while she was posted in Fatehpur. The incident had raised serious questions about police vigilance.

Within a month, police have now cracked the case.

Three Arrested; Two Still on the Run

ADCP North Gopi Nath Soni confirmed that police intercepted a suspicious car on Friday following an intelligence input. The trio inside the vehicle — Zeeshan, Arshad, and Riyaz — were taken into custody. A search of the car revealed a large haul of stolen ornaments and cash.

According to police:

  • 7 burglary cases were registered in Madiyaon,
  • 1 each in Aliganj and Jankipuram,
  • making a total of 9 cases in just 45 days.

Most stolen items from these cases have now been recovered.

Criminal Backgrounds and Modus Operandi

Police officials revealed:

  • Zeeshan has a past criminal record.
  • Arshad has 22 cases lodged against him.
  • Riyaz is also named in a previous case.

Their usual method was to identify locked houses, conduct reconnaissance, and strike late at night. The gang includes two more members—Imran and one unidentified associate—who are currently on the run.

Action Under Gangster Act Likely

Police stated that some members had previously faced action under the Gangster Act, and fresh proceedings will be initiated again.

Authorities have seized:

  • Jewellery worth ₹30 lakh,
  • ₹50,000 cash,
  • The car used in the burglaries.
