Lucknow: In a major development for the Lucknow Metro expansion project, authorities have finalized the location for the East–West Corridor’s depot, which will now be constructed in the Basantkunj Housing Scheme. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has identified around 40 acres of land in Sector-A of the scheme for the proposed facility.
LDA will soon submit full land details to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar confirmed that UPMRC had earlier sent a letter on 13 August, requesting land on Hardoi Road for the depot.
Survey Identifies 40 Acres for Metro Depot
Following UPMRC’s request, LDA conducted detailed measurement and surveys within the Basantkunj scheme. The south side of Sector-A was found suitable, and approximately 40 acres have now been earmarked for the depot.
The land is strategically located along 60-meter and 30-meter-wide roads, ensuring smooth connectivity. A portion of land near the local Fish Market (Machhli Mandi) has also been included in the designated area.
Meanwhile, 272 residential plots in Sector-A have already been allotted through lottery under the Basantkunj scheme.
Plot Owners’ Interests Fully Protected
LDA emphasized that the interests of these plot holders will be given top priority during the depot development process. Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar clarified that none of the allotted plots fall within the depot zone and will remain unaffected.
He assured that possession of plots will be handed over to all allottees soon.
Crucial Step Toward Metro Expansion
Finalizing the depot location marks a significant milestone for the Lucknow Metro’s East–West Corridor. With this decision, construction activities are expected to accelerate, ultimately easing severe traffic congestion in the crowded lanes of Old Lucknow once the corridor becomes operational.
The move is being seen as a major step toward improving urban mobility and enhancing the city’s transport infrastructure.
