
Lucknow, January 5, 2026: In a daring heist in Lucknow’s Jankipuram area, a thief posing as a customer stole 21 gold rings worth approximately ₹10 lakh from Khushi Jewellers. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, helping police quickly track down and arrest the accused.
According to Purushottam Verma, the shop owner, the incident occurred on Sunday around 10:30 AM at the jewelry store located on 60 Feeta Road. A young man on a motorcycle entered the shop, requesting to see some rings. He was initially shown a few rings from one box, but he claimed they were not to his liking. The shopkeeper then brought out another box of rings for him to inspect.
A split-second theft
As the shopkeeper went inside to fetch yet another box at the “customer’s request,” the thief seized the opportunity. In a matter of seconds, he grabbed the two boxes containing gold rings and dashed out of the store.
Police action and investigation
The shopkeeper immediately lodged an FIR at Jankipuram police station. Acting swiftly, police launched an investigation using the CCTV footage, which played a key role in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
The audacity of the theft has shocked local residents, highlighting the need for vigilance even in well-established commercial areas. Authorities continue to investigate if the accused was part of a larger gang.
