Amid the glitter and chaos of one of Asia’s largest fairs, a single voice has been offering hope and reassurance to thousands of families for the past 53 years. That voice belongs to LS Ajneria, the long-standing announcer at the Gwalior Trade Fair. Whenever a child loses their parents in the sprawling fairgrounds, it is Ajneria’s calm and emotive announcements that reunite families and bring relief.
Spanning 104 acres, the Gwalior Trade Fair has been a hub of commerce and culture since its inception in 1905. Ajneria has managed the fair’s radio room for over five decades, guiding lost children, elders, and visitors back to safety. On average, he helps 20–30 families every day, with numbers sometimes rising to 50 during peak crowds. Despite the digital age, his heartfelt announcements and the joy they bring to families remain the fair’s most touching reality.
Visitors often arrive in distress, crying or anxious, and leave with smiles when reunited with their loved ones. Ajneria describes these moments as the most rewarding part of his work, providing him with energy to carry through the entire fair season, which spans two months each year.
Beyond the fair, Ajneria also lends his voice for election campaigns and other public events, earning admiration and recognition from the community. His voice has become an identity of the Gwalior Trade Fair, symbolizing hope, safety, and the human connection that transcends time.
