Looting Brides’ on the Rise in UP: New Cases Surface Every Day

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a disturbing surge in matrimonial frauds, with several reports of brides and grooms deceiving families and vanishing with their wealth shortly after the wedding. In recent times, cases of ‘looting brides and grooms’ have grabbed headlines across the state. While some claims were verified, others remain under investigation, yet one fact is clear—some individuals have turned weddings into lucrative scams.

The Kajal Case: A Family Scam

A striking example emerged from Mathura, where a seemingly innocent bride, Kajal, was apprehended in Gurugram, Haryana. Kajal and her entire family—including her sister, brother, and parents—were involved in orchestrating the fraud. They would organize a lavish wedding using the groom’s money, stay for three days, and then abscond with jewelry and cash. On this occasion, police caught Kajal mid-scam, revealing the family’s full complicity.

Agra: Another Betrayal

In Agra, a local man married a young woman from Haryana. Earlier, his cousin had also married a girl from Bhadohi, who vanished with valuables three days after the wedding. Suspecting a similar deception, the Agra groom kept a close watch, catching the bride before she could flee with his belongings.

Kanpur: A Complex Case

Kanpur witnessed a bizarre case where a police officer, Aditya Lochan, accused his wife, Divyanshi Chaudhary, of being a serial looter. Allegedly, she had married two bank managers and another police officer, extorting millions from them. However, the court later found the allegations to be false, illustrating the complexity of such cases.

Shahjahanpur: The Fake Officer

In Shahjahanpur, police intercepted a man impersonating a police officer during routine checks. Wearing a police uniform with a two-star belt and cap, he had reportedly bought the attire to command respect and evade local tolls while posing as an official. His ruse was eventually exposed.

Rising Trend in Matrimonial Scams

These incidents underline a growing trend of weddings being exploited for financial gain in UP. Law enforcement agencies are now urging vigilance, stressing thorough verification before marriage ceremonies. Families are advised to remain cautious, as fraudsters increasingly employ clever tactics to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
