Lucknow: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) launched a major drive against illegal encroachments in Gomti Nagar Extension on Monday, demolishing more than a dozen unauthorized structures including dairies, shops, shanties, car workshops, and scrap outlets. These encroachments had been causing traffic congestion, waterlogging, and unhygienic conditions in the area.
Targeted Action at Sector–1
According to Vivek Srivastava, LDA Secretary, the operation focused on vacant land near the Gwari Flyover in Sector–1, which had long been illegally occupied. Unauthorized dairies, temporary shops, and workshops had been set up here, disrupting traffic and creating sanitation issues. In particular, tying animals to electric poles by dairy operators on service roads further hindered pedestrian and vehicular movement.
Joint Enforcement Team in Operation
Following directives from the LDA Vice-Chairman to clear encroachments, a joint team led by Zonal Officer Sangeeta Raghav and In-Charge Officer Arjan Vipin Kumar Shivhare carried out the demolition with the support of the enforcement and acquisition sections. LDA police personnel were also deployed to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
Temporary Relief for Some Residents
Some residents living in shanties requested additional time to vacate voluntarily. They have been granted a one-week grace period, after which the authority has warned that further action will be taken to remove any remaining illegal structures.
Expected Impact
LDA officials believe that this crackdown will significantly improve sanitation and traffic management in Gomti Nagar Extension, providing a cleaner and safer environment for residents.
