Last Chance for Farmers: Deadline Today to Insure Wheat, Gram and Mustard Crops in Rajasthan

Today marks the final opportunity for farmers in Rajasthan to secure insurance coverage for their Rabi crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The state government has fixed December 31 as the last date for enrolling crops for the Rabi season 2025–26. Farmers who fail to apply within the deadline will be deprived of the scheme’s benefits for the entire season.

Crops Covered Under the Scheme

For Rabi 2025–26, the notified crops under PMFBY include wheat, barley, gram (chickpea), mustard, and taramira. In addition, under the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme, crops such as fennel, lemon, mango, tomato, and watermelon are also covered.

Sum Insured and Premium Rates

The sum insured per hectare varies by crop. For wheat it is ₹91,835, barley ₹61,935, gram ₹80,244, mustard ₹1,03,337, and taramira ₹33,813. Farmers are required to pay only 1.5 percent of the insured amount as premium, while the remaining cost will be shared equally by the Central and State governments.

Relief for KCC Holders

Farmers holding a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) with regular account transactions will have their crop insurance automatically covered by banks. However, if there has been any change in the sown crop or cultivated area, it was mandatory to inform the bank by December 29.

The option for KCC holders to opt out of the scheme ended on December 24, and that window has now closed.

Documents Required for Non-Loanee Farmers

Farmers without crop loans who wish to enroll must submit:

  • Self-attested copy of latest land record (Jamabandi) with Khasra number
  • Declaration of sown area
  • Details of insurable interest
  • Copy of bank passbook

Where and How to Apply

Farmers can enroll through the National Crop Insurance Portal or by visiting their nearest bank branch. For KCC holders, the premium amount will be directly debited from their bank accounts.

Officials have urged farmers not to miss the deadline, highlighting that crop insurance serves as a strong financial safety net in case of natural calamities or crop loss. With December 31 being the final date, farmers are advised to complete the process without delay to ensure full protection for their Rabi crops.
