Jalaun: The mysterious suicide of Inspector Arun Kumar Rai, in charge of the Kuthound Police Station in Jalaun, has taken a dramatic turn as lady constable Meenakshi Sharma has been arrested. Her conduct and presence at the scene moments before the shooting have made her role highly suspicious.
According to sources, Meenakshi and the inspector allegedly shared a close relationship, which gradually turned into tension and conflict. Based on the complaint filed by Arun Rai’s wife, a case of murder has also been registered, and police are investigating all possible angles.
CCTV Shows Meenakshi Running Out Moments After Gunshot
On 5 December, Inspector Arun Rai shot himself with his service revolver inside his government quarters. The bullet pierced through his head, and the pistol was later found resting on his abdomen.
CCTV footage from the premises shows that at 9:15 PM, Meenakshi entered the inspector’s residence, and at 9:18 PM, she ran out screaming that a gunshot had been fired.
Contacts Continued Even After Transfers
Sources confirm that Meenakshi Sharma had been in touch with Inspector Rai since 2024. Their closeness reportedly developed while she was posted at Konch police station.
Even after the inspector was transferred from Konch to Orai, and later to Kuthound, Meenakshi continued to visit him frequently.
Blackmail Allegation Emerges as Key Motive
Police officials believe that Meenakshi may have been blackmailing the inspector. During interrogation, she responded clearly to only a few questions.
Sources claim:
- She had recorded objectionable videos of the inspector.
- She was allegedly demanding ₹25 lakh from him.
- She recently purchased a ₹3 lakh necklace.
- She had a heated phone conversation with him on the day of the suicide.
After the argument, Meenakshi reportedly went to the police station, where Inspector Rai shot himself upon seeing her.
Lavish Lifestyle Under Scrutiny
Though she served as a constable, Meenakshi reportedly maintained a lifestyle far beyond her means. She was known to keep minimal interaction with colleagues.
Police have seized three mobile phones, including an iPhone, from her possession. All devices are being analyzed for data, chats, videos, and financial evidence.
Past Complaints Also Surface
Hailing from Meerut, Meenakshi joined Uttar Pradesh Police in 2019. Her first posting was in Pilibhit, where she had filed a case against another constable. She was later transferred to Jalaun.
