The controversial religious conversion and alleged “love jihad” case at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has intensified after the victim woman doctor met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday. The Chief Minister assured the victim and her family of strict justice and reprimanded senior officials for any lapse in handling the matter.
The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s residence and was attended by the woman doctor and her father. During the interaction, the family shared their ordeal with the Chief Minister. CM Yogi categorically stated that strict action would be taken against the accused, and if any other individuals were found involved, they too would face legal consequences.
The Chief Minister also issued clear instructions to concerned officials to ensure a thorough and uncompromising investigation. Although the meeting was kept confidential, KGMU spokesperson Dr. KK Singh later confirmed that the meeting had indeed taken place.
Allegations Against Accused Doctor
The case involves serious allegations against Dr. Rameez, a doctor working at KGMU. According to the complaint, the accused—despite being married—allegedly trapped the woman doctor in a relationship under false pretenses. When the woman insisted on marriage, Dr. Rameez allegedly began pressuring her to convert her religion.
The alleged harassment deeply traumatized the woman doctor, pushing her to the brink, following which she attempted suicide. The incident sparked outrage and drew widespread attention across the state.
Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had spoken directly to the victim over the phone, after which an FIR was registered against the accused doctor.
Administration Responds
The KGMU administration has clarified that police are conducting a swift and impartial investigation into the matter. Officials rejected claims of administrative inaction, stating that such allegations are baseless and aimed at maligning the image of the government and the institution.
As the investigation progresses, the case continues to draw public and political attention, with growing demands for strict punishment and systemic accountability in institutions of higher learning.
